WATCH: Lewis pole-dances in video for new single Grace

Scotland’s Lewis Capaldi has today unveiled a highly entertaining video to his uplifting new single ‘Grace’, which follows his recent addition to the BBC Radio 1 Brit List, and ahead of a UK & EU headline tour which has seen tickets fly and will serve as landmark performances in the young songwriter’s career.

Juxtaposed against the song’s beautiful craftsmanship, the video sees Lewis engage his cutting edge wit and tongue-in-cheek personality. What at first appears to be him preparing for a music performance, quickly escalates into winning over the room with an outrageously hilarious dance routine, backed by a fleet of male performers. Removing himself from the ‘serious’ stereotype of singer-songwriters, the video serves as a perfect example of Capaldi’s willingness to take risks, allowing him to stand out from his contemporaries.

On the sounds and themes to both the track and video, Lewis comments; “‘Grace’ is a song about being with someone who makes any negative shit going on in your life feel irrelevant. There’s something class about finding someone who can do that - you don’t know what you were doing or how you felt before. That’s where the line about finding salvation in the form of your grace comes from.

For the video I wanted to do something different to what I’d usually do or what I’ve seen from other artists who are doing songs that have a similar subject matter. There are some people who are really good at doing sincere videos, and that’s cool, but it’s just not me. Despite my songs being emotional, I’m not really the serious type, so I thought it would be funny to do the most ridiculous idea imaginable!”

Since his debut track ‘Bruises’ exploded online last year, Capaldi has been able to boast incredibly rare markers in his still fledgling career, whether it be selling a staggering 50,000 headline show tickets, amassing over 200 million plays across streaming services & selling out no less than three back-to-back headline tours, with demand outstripping supply at every turn. This all underlined with critical praise, joining the likes of Rex Orange County & Sigrid on the BBC’s Sound Of 2018 longlist, and recently being added, along with Pale Waves, to BBC Radio 1’s Brit List.

His personal achievements haven’t gone unnoticed by his musician peers, however, with Sam Smith, Rag’n’ Bone Man & Niall Horan offering Capaldi an audience of 500,000+ people, the young 21 year who only 18 months previous, had been plugging-in, night-after-night into the local pub gig circuit of Glasgow.

Capaldi soon kicks off his UK & EU headline tour which will see him play fourteen dates around the country, including two nights at the 2,200 capacity Glasgow Barrowlands that both sold out in less than an hour, and a venue he watched many of his favourite artists play as a kid growing-up. In London, Lewis will return to play a sold out O2 Shepherds Bush, a significant rise from the 120 capacity Waiting Rooms that he headlined just a year ago. It charts a remarkable rise for one of the UK’s hottest artists.
